Ah, the wedding proposal. It’s one of the happiest, most memorable moments of a woman’s life. Soon after it, a deluge of events and activities will ensue. The ring will be admired, the date will be set, the wedding planner hired and the bridesmaids handpicked. And then, of course, there’s the business of the attire to attend to. Few things next to the wedding vows themselves will hold as much importance as the wedding gown on the big day. It is the piece de resistance without a doubt. And when most blushing brides begin to fantasize about the audience gasping with delight as she saunters down the aisle in a pool of tulle, satin, lace and the like, there’s usually a part in there that includes an equally astonishing gathering of girlfriends who will pre-saunter the aisles and prepare the way for her arrival.

That’s when the bridesmaids' dress selection begins.

Most brides will have a unique assembly of girlfriends as bridesmaids (think Carrie Bradshaw, "Sex and the City") and thus a unique assembly of tastes to appease with a flattering dress style. Some may be short, some tall, some thin and some on the plump side, some wild and risky, some conservative and classic. If you’re a bride in the planning stage, perhaps you’re facing this very dilemma of diversity among your closest gal pals. Following are some tips that will help you to get your bridesmaids to agree on one dress:

Compromise

Any good bridesmaid should respect the fact that it really is your day and the selection of the bridesmaid dress is not the time to be über picky. That being said, if at all possible you can try compromising a little by providing choices of perhaps two or three different styles instead of one take-it-or-leave-it style.

Condense

Sometimes getting to a unanimous vote may mean crossing some names off of your list. It may seem grueling to think of limiting your party to a mere handful of your closest friends, but the odds are that it’ll be easier to get 4 ladies to agree as opposed to 14.

Consider Cost

Try your best to keep the dress cost effective. Even if your dress choices don’t bowl everyone over, they’ll be less likely to bark too loudly if the price is right.

Consider Color

Think about the skin tone and hair color of your bridesmaids when choosing the color(s) they will wear. No one should argue that these choices are ultimately up to you, but you should try your best to choose colors that will be flattering to all. Keep in mind that your bridesmaids will surround you on your big day and appear in many of the shots that will frequent the pages of your wedding book forever. The better they look, the better you will look.

Consider the Closet Factor

Probably the biggest complaint that many bridesmaids will have is that the dress is not practical enough to ever be worn again. If you choose a dress that just may see the outside of a closet again, your bridesmaids will be appreciative.
